Robert Downey Jr. Is Back as Iron Man for Two New Disney Marvel Rides

At D23 2024, Disney announced new Avengers, Iron Man and Spider-Man rides for its parks.

We know Robert Downey Jr. is now Doctor Doom. But he’s also back as Iron Man, at least in Disney Parks. At Disney’s massive Experiences panel at D23 this weekend, we learned Downey will reprise his iconic role in two brand new rides officially announced for Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, CA. Those join two new Spider-man rides as the four brand new Marvel attractions revealed at the event.

First, Downey is back for Stark Flight Lab, a ride first announced at the event which will be at Avengers Campus in California. It’ll have you and a friend in seats that get spun around as part of a new experiment by Mr. Stark himself. io9 also confirmed via Disney that Downey will be joining the previously announced multiverse Avengers ride which we now know is called “Avengers: Infinity Defense.” Park guests will travel across time and space, visiting Wakanda, Asgard, and eventually New York City in a battle against King Thanos. Construction on both rides will begin in 2025 and here’s some more concept art.

Those two rides will double the size of the first Avengers Campus (see that first image above), which has recently seen a resurgence thanks to the addition of Deadpool. Deadpool even made a prolonged appearance at the panel, pitching the head of Disney Parks on several Deadpool-themed rides but those won’t be happening

The two Marvel rides that are happening will debut across the Pacific. Shanghai Disneyland will get a Spider-Man roller coaster and Hong Kong Disneyland will get what appears to be a Spider-Man drop ride. Here are images.

Check io9 soon for even more coverage of the crazy amount of new revealed at D23.

Update 12 a.m. August 11: Disney confirmed that Downey’s voice will be used in both rides. We’ve made that clarification in the piece.
