Section 31‘s First Trailer Is Star Trek‘s Answer to Suicide Squad

Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh returns to Star Trek as her Discovery character Phillipa Georgiou, for a new movie about the mysterious Starfleet black ops division.

It’s been years in the making—and grown from a spinoff TV series into its own streaming movie—but at last, we finally have our first look at Michelle Yeoh back in action in Star Trek: Section 31.

Revealed today during the Star Trek panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the first trailer for Section 31 re-introduces us to Michelle Yeoh’s Star Trek: Discovery character, former Empress of the Mirror Universe Phillipa Georgiou. Georgiou was last seen departing the far-future timeline Discovery found itself in during season three to parts unknown. Those parts unknown see her drafted into Section 31, the secret police division of Starfleet tasked with the morally dubious actions needed to safeguard the Federation. The perfect place for even a reformed former leader of the Terran Empire? Check it out, and its.. very interesting tonal balance between exploring Georgiou’s past and her present, incredibly glamorous shenanigans:

Written and directed by Discovery‘s Craig Sweeny and Olatunde Osunsanmi, the film also stars Kacey Rohl as a young Rachel Garrett–the captain of the Enterprise-C introduced in the TNG episode “Yesterday’s Enterprise”—alongside Omari Hardwick, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez, and James Hiroyuki Liao. Also confirmed at Comic-Con today was that Kate‘s Miku Martineau will appear in the film as the young Georgiou.

Star Trek: Section 31 is expected to hit Paramount+ in early 2025.
